About the Show...

You are invited to a party.

Music drifts from the barn, jazz fills the air, and guests gather beneath glowing lights for an evening of celebration, spectacle, and surprise. This bold open-air reimagining of Shakespeare’s As You Like It begins in the glamour of the roaring twenties before escaping into the wild beauty of the Forest of Arden.

Audiences are welcomed as part of the experience from the very beginning. Dress in your finest 1920s attire if you wish, dance the Charleston, watch magicians and live jazz musicians, and step inside a world where theatre and celebration blur together.

As Rosalind and Celia flee the rigid world of the court, audiences journey with them out across the farm and into the open landscape itself. The story unfolds amongst fields, hay bales and grazing sheep, where identities shift, romance blossoms, and the natural world offers freedom, transformation, and joyful possibility.

Blending immersive theatre, live music, promenade storytelling, and the magic of the outdoors, this production invites audiences to experience Shakespeare in a completely different way — not simply as spectators, but as guests inside the world of the play.

A playful, romantic, jazz-soaked theatrical adventure beneath the open sky.

ACCESSIBILITY?

This promenade performance involves a little bit of walking during ACT 1 across locations on the farm. The performance begins inside the Eco Barn at Lopemede farm, with seated options available. As audience we are then led by the actors across the farm to escape to the Forest of Arden with Rosalind and Celia. The rest of the performance is seated in the Theatre on the Farm field.

You are welcome to bring your own picnics to enjoy before, during or after the show. We think this is all part of the magic and excitement of outdoor theatre. At this performance there will be a bar available to purchase additional drinks and snacks.

Toilets are available throughout the site.

Children and infants are welcome to all our outdoor performances. This particular production isn't designed with Children in mind but the content is not unsuitable or sensitive. The Shakespearean text may be more challenging for younger children to enjoy.

There is parking available on the farm. We will endeavour to sign post clearly and have marshals to assist you. However, please note the entrance to the farm is a little hidden from the busy Long Crendon Rd. The farm is also reachable on foot or by bike from Thame, just be mindful when crossing the busy roundabout.

Just like any open-air theatre we embrace the weather as audience and actors. We will not cancel, refund or pause a show because of rain. In the event that the weather becomes dangerous for our actors we will postpone the start time of the performance. If we have a wild tempest during the performance we will simply pause the show to allow the weather to settle, offer you shelter and resume where we left off.

Umbrellas and waterproofs. Sunhats, sunglasses and sun cream. Be prepared for all British weather.

We want this show to be as welcoming and inclusive as possible. The performance takes place in a grassy field, accessed via a gentle but noticeable slope. We have previously been able to get mobility scooters and wheelchairs down into the space, however the return journey back up the slope can be challenging and may require assistance.

Accessible toilets are located in the nearby car park, which would involve travelling back up the slope from the performance area.

Access needs are individual, and we’re very happy to discuss the site and options with you in advance so you can decide whether this experience will work for you. Please feel free to get in touch before booking.
