Important Information
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a guided promenade (walking) theatre experience.
Audience members will journey with Dorothy and her friends across Theatre on the Farm's fields and farmland as part of the story.
The walk is gentle, relatively short, and broken up by scenes, games and opportunities to rest.
The route includes uneven ground and grassy farm terrain.
The final section of the performance takes place seated beneath a giant Tipi tent.
All audience participation is entirely optional.
About the show...
Step this way and come on an adventure with us to meet the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
This is a bold, playful and immersive reimagining of L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, created for family audiences and designed as a guided walking theatre experience.
Rather than sitting in one place, audiences journey with Dorothy across the farm itself. Led by our cast of professional performers, you'll travel together through fields and farmland, meeting familiar characters, overcoming challenges and helping Dorothy find her way to meet the Wizard.
Before the performance begins, audiences are invited to explore Dorothy's Farmyard. Along the way audiences can join in with our barn dance, help search for the Yellow Brick Road and tackle challenges together. There are regular pauses for scenes, storytelling and rest, so the walking is broken into short sections.
The adventure culminates beneath our giant Oz Tipi, where seating is provided for the final chapters of the story.
Everything is entirely optional. Whether you prefer to watch quietly or throw yourself into the adventure, our actors will guide you every step of the way.
What to Expect
BEFORE THE SHOW
Arrive up to 30 minutes before the start time to explore Dorothy's Farmyard, featuring:

Refreshments will be available from the bar before the show.
THE ADVENTURE BEGINS
The performance starts with a lively barn dance led by live musicians and a caller. Audience members are welcome to join in or simply watch.
When the cyclone arrives, Dorothy's barn is transformed and the journey to Oz begins.
Audiences will be guided by the characters on a short walk across fields and farmland.

Yes. This is a guided promenade (walking) theatre performance.
Audience members will travel with Dorothy and her friends across a small number of fields as part of the adventure. The route follows grassy farmland and uneven ground and includes regular stops where scenes take place.
The total walking distance is relatively short and is broken up by opportunities to stand, sit and rest. The final section of the show takes place seated beneath a giant Tipi tent. Our actors remain with the audience throughout and guide everyone between locations. Please note that the route includes natural farm terrain, which may contain uneven surfaces, slopes, rabbit holes, tree roots, long grass, mud and other countryside hazards that can vary depending on weather conditions.
Suitable footwear is strongly recommended.
Absolutely. You are welcome to picnic before, during or after the show.
Please note that anything you bring during the performance will need to be carried with you during the promenade sections.
At this performance there will be a bar available to purchase additional drinks and snacks.
Toilets are available at various locations on site.
This performance is suitable for adults and children of all ages.
There is parking available on the farm. We will endeavour to sign post clearly and have marshals to assist you. However, please note the entrance to the farm is a little hidden from the busy Long Crendon Rd. The farm is also reachable on foot or by bike from Thame, just be mindful when crossing the busy roundabout.
Just like any open-air theatre we embrace the weather as audience and actors. We will not cancel, refund or pause a show because of rain. In the event that the weather becomes dangerous for our actors we will postpone the start time of the performance. If we have a wild tempest during the performance we will simply pause the show to allow the weather to settle, offer you shelter and resume where we left off.
Umbrellas and waterproofs. Sunhats, sunglasses and sun cream. Be prepared for all British weather.
We want this show to be as welcoming and inclusive as possible. The nature of this performance involves travelling around farmland. Access needs are individual, and we’re very happy to discuss the site and options with you in advance so you can decide whether this experience will work for you. Please feel free to get in touch before booking. By booking tickets, audience members acknowledge that this is an outdoor promenade performance involving walking across farmland and natural terrain.
The performance itself lasts approximately 60-75 minutes. Guests are welcome to arrive up to 30 minutes before the advertised start time to enjoy Dorothy's Farmyard activities, meaning most visitors spend between 90 minutes and 2 hours on site.
We wouldn't recommend bringing a pushchair unless it's designed for off-road terrain.
No. Every interactive element is completely optional. You may simply watch and enjoy the story, or choose to take part in activities such as searching for the Yellow Brick Road, joining the barn dance or helping with challenges along the way.
